Older tenants urged to apply for Pension Credit

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a campaign to encourage older people to apply for Pension Credit.

Pension Credit gives people over State Pension age and on a low income extra money to help with living costs. It is separate from the State Pension.

From this year, people claiming Pension Credit will automatically receive the Winter Fuel Payment.

Families, friends and neighbours are encouraged to reach out to retired people they know and encourage them to check their eligibility and apply.

Wheatley’s Vicky Rowlands said: “We want all our customers to be able to claim everything they are entitled to.

“Customers who claim Pension Credit will automatically receive the Winter Fuel Payment from this year, so it’s important people don’t miss out.”

To apply for Pension Credit, click here or phone 0800 99 1234. People can also use the Pension Credit calculator to check entitlement.

Backdated claims to receive the Winter Fuel Payment must be made before 21 December.
